CCU Futsal

ABOUT CCU FUTSAL (CHALLENGE / CHALLENGE UNITED FUTSAL)

At CCU Futsal, our mission is to spread the game of futsal within our community through both introductory and competitive programming for youth players. We believe that futsal is a wonderful sport on its own but that its development also goes hand-in-hand with soccer, and we want to see futsal continue to spread through the vast soccer community.

As a club that caters to youth, we believe that comprehensive technical training is important but that development also extends to mental training, interpersonal skills, and building good habits that extend beyond the court. In addition to becoming better players, we hope that players involved in our programs develop bravery to challenge themselves, confidence to communicate, and creativity to express their own playing identities, as well as becoming good teammates and potentially friends.

CCU Futsal was started in 2021 and is sanctioned by USYF (US Youth Futsal) which brings a structured and professional platform that offers the opportunity to participate in state, regional, and national events; including the USYF ID Trials which selects players to travel internationally. For the past two years, we’ve had players playing in the USYF National Championships and on USYF International teams, and we aim to continue building the number of players involved at the highest levels.

ABOUT FUTSAL

Futsal (wiki link) is a FIFA sanctioned sport that is played as a 5v5 small-sided game on a hard-surfaced basketball sized court with a smaller, heavier low bounce ball and no offsides. It is played with touchline boundaries and without walls. Futsal is very different from the outside game. It’s much faster and every player on the court is involved in the action.

By playing Futsal players can expect to have more touches on the ball, learn how to play out of pressure in a smaller space, improve technically and be forced to make quick decisions both on and off the ball. Some of the best soccer players from around the world grew up playing futsal; players like Messi, Ronaldinho, Neymar, Ronaldo & Pele to name a few.

FUTSAL ACADEMY TRAINING

Open, academy-style training is once a week and continues year-round. Typically 2 or 3 ages are combined together for each session and skill level is then separated within the training. Members must register for this training. Currently, academy training is only available for girls U9 (2015) - U14 (2010). We look forward to including boys later in the year.

TRAINING CAMPS

Training camps are typically week-long programs often offered through the summer or during soccer downtimes. Members must register for these camps and details of each one will be posted below when they become available.

COMPETITION

Competitive events generally fall into one of three types: friendly games, tournaments, and ID trials. Friendlies and tournament events will have a signup available to all the members of the CCU Futsal Club during the current season. (Register for free for the current season HERE:. ID trials will have their own registrations through the organization that hosts it. When we are preparing for an event, a signup will be sent out to our futsal members to find out who is interested in participating. Teams will be formed based on those who sign up. We understand families, players, teams, etc all have different priority schedules throughout the year and this process allows us to involve players who are available and to not put unnecessary pressure on players who cannot commit to every event.

Friendly competitions will typically be games between our teams and other local teams. There is no specific schedule for them and they may appear on short notice.

Tournaments will typically be focused on the most competitive players first, but depending on the event and the number of players available to compete, additional teams may be organized. These events will be known well ahead of time and will likely have additional training to prepare for them. Some expected tournaments will be the USYF Texas State Championships in early December 2023, the USYF South Regional Championships in mid January 2024, and the USYF National Championships in July 2024.

ID Trials are generally to be selected to high level teams composed of players over a wide area. The USYF supports an ID Program that selects players for the National ID Trials. The local Texas State ID Trial will likely be at the end of May 2024. Those selected will be invited to the National ID Trial in Kansas City, July 2024.

LEAGUES

With most of our player-base being composed of outdoor soccer players, futsal leagues will typically be reserved for the winter and summer, when soccer is slower. Leagues may be hosted by us, though other clubs in Houston host leagues and participation in those is possible as well. Building an intercity league is a goal we would enjoy seeing in the future.
